Definition of Sufism by Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani

Bismillah

Assalamu alaikum,

When asked to define what Sufism was, one of the great Sufi masters, Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (may Allah be well pleased with him) stated:

Sufism is to fulfill the Command (of Allah) and avoid the Prohibited Matter, outwardly and inwardly, in a manner that will please Him, and not please you.”

أ.هـ
