Bismillah,
Assalamu alaikum,
A fellow murid sent us this advice of Sayyidi Shaykh Muhammad bin Yahya al-Ninowy (may Allah preserve and elevate him) on the stages and interactions with the Qur’an:
After you understand the greatness of the Qur’an, then understand the greatness of the One who revealed the Qur’an.
Realise that by reading the book of Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala), you are striving to get close to Him, thank Him for allowing you this opportunity to read His Book.
Then you have to go to huzoor ul qalb, wa tarkin nafs, meaning “you’re present and you leave the talk of the self”.
When you are with the Qur’an, be present, clear your mind and synchronize yourself with the Qur’an, that will then take you to tadabur, that you understand what is being said and that will lead you to tattafahum, the understanding of what is being asked of you!
That will then take you to tata’hassuf, which is that when you read ya ayuhalazeena aamanu (oh you who beleive), you realise that Allah is talking to you.
Once you realise that , it will take you to hashya & taraqee.
The first door in Taraqee is shyness…When you are shy before Allah (subhanahu wa ta’ala), you have so many things to ask him for, but dont know how to ask.
Some of the ‘Arifeen (those who are close to allah and know him) say that it opens the eye of your heart, it gives you the realization that you are being observed by Allah in this very moment.
This will put you in that status where you are interacting with the Qur’an, as if you are in the atmospheres of revelation.
The next stage is when the noor of the Qur’an comes into your heart, it shines and enlightens you, and some of the ‘Arifeen say that the love of Allah and His Prophet will enter every vein, every vessel and nerve in your body, so it flows through you.
Imam Zayn al-Abideen was hearing the adhan once, and when the mueddhin said the Prophet’s name, and “I bear witness that Muhammad (salla Allahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) is the messenger of Allah”, Imam Zayn al-Abideen said at that point “my skin witnesses, my bones witness, my blood witnesses, my hair witnesses and my whole body witnesses lailalah illalah Muhamad Rasoolullah.”
May Allah Ta’ala grant us the tawfiq to enter these stages and interactions with al-Qur’an al-Karim so that every aspect of our mind, body, and soul is encompassed with the love of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and His Beloved, our Master Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his noble family). Ameen.
Ma’salama
