Imam Ali and the Dead

Bismillah,

Assalamu alaikum,

Al-Bayhaqī narrated with his chain up to Sa‘īd b. al-Musayyib who said:

“We entered the graveyard of Madīna with ‘Alī–may Allah be pleased with him– and he called out: ‘Oh inhabitants of the graves! Peace be upon you all and the mercy of Allah! Shall you inform us of your news or shall we inform you of our news?’ [Sa‘īd] said: ‘We heard a voice call out: ‘And upon you be the peace, mercy, and blessings of Allah oh leader of the believers! Inform us of what has happened after us.’ ‘Alī said: ‘As for your wives, they have all remarried. As for your wealth, it has all been divided. Your children are now gathered in the ranks of the orphans, and the dwellings you built are now all inhabited by your enemies. This is the news that we have, so what news do you have?’ One of the deceased replied: ‘The burial shrouds have all but torn to shreds, our hair has fallen out and dispersed, and our flesh has decomposed. Our eyeballs have withered down our cheeks and the worms have deposited their pus and fecal matter. What we sent forth, we have found, and what we left behind, we have lost; we are now responsible.”‘

Compliments and Humiliation

Bismillah,

Assalamu alaikum,

I found this quote on Sidi Yursil’s blog:

The great saint Sayyed Ibrahim Fasih Naksibendi (ks) said:

“The murid must not be deceived when his Murshid (spiritual guide) turns to him and gives him compliments, he must even desire this special treatment to stop, it means, the murid must not expect respect and high regards from his Murshid, because the respectful behaviors of the Murshid to the murid are actually a destructive situation for the murid, this kind of behaviour by the Murshid is caused by the murids disloyalty. If the Murshid sometimes behaves to the murid harshly it is to humiliate his nafs (ego), it is for the mercy of the murid because the Murshid has taken him under his training and is engaging with him.

In this case the murid has to be patient in this situation, everyone must not forget that everyone is in a different test”

Spring’s Gift

Bismillah,

Assalamu alaikum,

I haven’t seen this poem for awhile until I saw it on Sidi Yaser’s blog called “Spring’s Gift” by Shaykh Hamza Yusuf (may Allah preserve him). As today is the blessed day when our Master, our Beloved Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was born, it seemed best to post this beautiful poem:

I envy the sand that met his feet

I’m jealous of honey he tasted sweet

Of birds that hovered above his head

Of spiders who spun their sacred web

To save him from his enemies

I envy clouds formed from the seas

That gave him cover from the heat

Of a sun whose light could not compete

With his, whose face did shine so bright

That all was clear in blinding night

I envy sightless trees that gazed

Upon his form completely dazed

Not knowing if the sun had risen

But felt themselves in unison

With those who prayed, and fasted too

Simply because he told them to

With truth and kindness, charity

From God who gave such clarity

His mercy comes in one He sent

To mold our hearts more heaven bent

I envy all there at his side

Who watched the turning of the tide

As truth prevailed and falsehood fled

And hope restored life to the dead

Men and Women through him found grace

To seek together God’s noble face

I envy the cup that gave him drink

His thoughts that helped us all to think

To be one thought that passed his mind

Inspiring him to act so kind

For me this world is not one jot

If I could simply be a thought

From him to God throughout the ages

As revelation came in stages

I pity all who think it odd

To hear him say there is one God

Or he was sent by God to men

To hone their spirits’ acumen

It’s pride that blinds us from the sight

That helps good men to see his light

He taught us all to be God’s slaves

And he will be the one who saves

Humanity from sinful pride

Muhammad has God on his side

So on this day be blessed and sing

For he was born to grace our Spring

With lilies, flowers, life’s rebirth

In a dome of green like his on earth
